KARTING sensation George Russell capped off a glittering season by completing a hat-trick of British titles in Suffolk last weekend.

The 12-year-old from Tydd St Giles continued his rich vein of form to clinch the Formula Kart Stars Championship at Ellough Park in Beccles, Suffolk.

Russell had been crowned the youngest ever winner of the Lewis Hamilton and Bernie Ecclestone-backed MSA Super 1 Championship just two weeks earlier.

His delighted sister, Cara, 25, said: “We’re so proud of George as a family because he really couldn’t have won anything more this year.

“It’s been an amazing campaign considering he’s raced against drivers that are 16 and he only stepped up into the Mini Max class this year.

“George seems to take it all in his stride. He’s so relaxed because he’s grown up on the racing track. At times it seems we’re more nervous than him.

“This season has been the start of what could be an amazing career for George and we are doing everything that we can as a family to give George the best shot of achieving his dream.”

The Wisbech Grammar School student has already won more titles than Formula One world champions Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton did at the same age.

Russell’s glory charge began in August when he clinched his third MSA Kartmasters British Grand Prix in a row.

His Strawberry Racing team manager, Warwick Ringham, said: “George is as good as any driver we’ve ever had for his age.

“We’ve known him for years because his brother Benjy drove for us and he’s a great driver too.

“It really was a no-brainer to take him on and I’ve never doubted that George has the talent to make it but it’s all about getting the right breaks along the way.”

Russell and his family are now seeking funding to help the starlet continue his progression up the racing ladder.
