FOUR Fenland bowlers made it to the last 16 when competing in the British Isles Fours Championships at Worthing.

Alan Hayes, Russell Smith, Mick Chamberlain and Paul Hayes represented Cambridgeshire after winning the county title for the second successive year.

All are members of Christchurch Bowls Club and they were knocked out by Yorkshire, losing 22-9 on Tuesday.

They had earlier beaten Leicestershire in the first round by a single shot and then Essex by 10 shots.

Skipper and president of Christchurch Bowls Club Paul Hayes said: "To qualify for the nationals for two years in a row is good in itself, but to make it to the last 16 in the British Isles is an incredible achievement."

Christchurch's Alan Hayes and Roly Frost will be competing in the first round of the pairs championship on Monday.
