GRAEME Dott has confirmed he will defy medical advice and play in the snooker World Championship despite being treated for depression.

The 30-year-old former world champion will play Chatteris-based Joe Perry in the first round on Saturday.

Dott is still trying to come to terms with the death of his father-in-law Alex Lambie after he lost his long fight with cancer in December 2006, while wife Elaine suffered a miscarriage and went through a cancer scare.

He is going through the worst spell of his professional career, having lost his last 15 matches.

Perry would have received a bye if Dott pulled out but the Scotsman revealed his decision play on Wednesday afternoon.
