ALL-ROUND heroics from the in-form Gary Freear helped Wisbech beat the weather and cruise to a 131-run victory against struggling Ickwell on Saturday.

Freear smashed 109 not out and got good support from Ivan Burgess (36) as Wisbech posted 209-7 at Harecroft Road.

Rain delays threatened to rob Wisbech of a much-needed win, but Freear (3-14) and Craig Johnson (3-18) devastated the Ickwell batting line-up who could only manage 78-8 in reply.

The first team suffered a change in fortunes on Sunday as they fell to a narrow two-wicket defeat against Kings Keys in Rutland Division Two.

David Wood (36) top-scored as Wisbech flopped to 120 all out. Australian seamer Drew Jones (6-57) almost rescued Wisbech with a stunning spell but Kings Keys crept home with two wickets to spare.

• RAIN came to the rescue of Wisbech II on Saturday after they posted just 132 all out, with Danny Emmington’s 34 the top score.

Thriplow looked to be cruising to victory at 42-0 but the heavens opened to give the second team a share of the spoils.

Brad Apted’s inspired all-round performance helped the seconds to a thrilling four-run win over Laxton Park on Sunday.

Emmington continued his fine form with an impressive 72 not out and Apted hit 55 as Wisbech posted 171-9 from their 45 overs.

Apted then did the damage with the new ball, quickly removing Laxton Park’s top three on his way to recording figures of 4-28. Paul Strickle (3-38) removed the lower order as Wisbech hung on for victory.

• WISBECH III were denied the chance to take on Fenland rivals Chatteris II as the weather hit their Cambs Junior 2A fixture.

The fourth team’s game was abandoned at the halfway point. Al Hanrahan (15) and Suraj Karavadra (26) put on a steady opening stand but Wisbech collapsed to 90 all out before rain came to the rescue.
