WISBECH Town centre-back Paul Cousins has quit the Fenmen and signed for Ridgeons Premier Division rivals Dereham Town.

The 25-year-old was the Wisbech manger's, players' and Fenmen on-line player of the year last year.

He signed for Wisbech on the transfer deadline in March 2006 and has previously played for Ridgeons First Division outfit March Town United.

Supporter Spencer Larham said: "Paul's know for his never-say-die attitude and his commitment and he was very popular with the fans.

"The best example of that is when he turned up to a league match against Norwich United in April with blood pouring out of his head. He had just had just clattered himself in the face with the garden shed before turning up at Fenland Park and just got bandaged up and got on with it."

The Fenmen won that match 1-0.

Dereham finished fifth in the Ridgeons Premier Division last season and applied for promotion to the Southern League.

It is expected that they will do the same again this season.
