A tennis prospect from the Thomas Clarkson Academy in Wisbech has set his sights on a successful career in the sport.

Seth Briggs-Williams, 11, has already bagged an impressive haul of over 50 trophies and 100 medals so far, but the youngster is already aiming higher.

He said: “The more competitions you win, the more you get invited to.

“I recently played in a county final under 14 tournament and came second and, in that same weekend, I won the under 12 competition and came second in the 16 and under category at a competition in Northampton.

“I train every day until late and I put it around 12 to 15 hours practise sessions a week. I have to do a lot of drills, like footwork, as I need to run around the court quickly.”

Seth is on course to topping the county-wide rankings and cementing his place in the top five nationally, and says he is unphased coming up against stronger opponents – some of which have been up to five years older than him.

“It doesn’t matter how old they are – they’re just another player on the court,” he said.

“You need to be mentally strong because the matches can go on for a long time and you have to keep at it and not give up. The longest match I’ve had lasted for four and a half hours.

“I always look forward to the competitions and sometimes I take my homework along to do between matches!”
