WINTERY weather stopped the fish from feeding once again last weekend.

An Open Match took place on the pool at Fields End Water, Doddington last Saturday and a very cold wind blowing across the lake made it hard for half of the 24 anglers taking part.

Winner on the day was Gary Burton who drew peg 24and a back wind peg. Gary fished red maggot on the feeder all day to take a winning catch of carp of 44lb.

Second place went to Brad Kiddell, who also sat on the bank and finished with 25-12.

Then, on Sunday, Townsend Angling Club started their Summer Points Series on the pool and after a sharp frost and the match the day before, it was always going to be tough going.

Martin King drew peg 24 which won on the Saturday and took top spot with 10lb 8oz of carp to 2lb.

Martin caught most of his fish on a waggler, fished at distance using red maggot as hook bait.

I managed second place with five carp for 5lb 14 oz and Andy Adams came third with 4lb 8oz.

Over at Marshland Smeeth the Tuesday evening floodlit fishing matches have started on the Button Hole Lake and a week last Tuesday Jamie Crown took top spot with 35lb 10oz of carp.

Second place went to Richard Button with 23-8 and Andy Lawrence came third with 22lb 12oz.

These matches start at 5pm with a draw and fishing is from 5.30pm-9pm.

Mill View Angling Club fished on Willow Lake at Decoy in their last Winter League fixture, and Ian Crawford won with 69lb.

Second place went to Pete Carter with 52lb and Des Proud was third with 47lb.

Winner of the Winter League Series was Barry Mason, second was Mark Carter and Gary Burton was third.

Mill View are running an Open Match on Elm Lake at Decoy. Anybody wanting to fish should contact the shop or telephone 01354 660566.

Both Open Matches at Decoy fished reasonably well on Saturday. Tony Dawson needed 88lb to take top spot and Nigel Baxter was second with 49lb.

Then on Sunday, Ted Sargent won with 80lb 12oz and Jon Whincup was second with 74lb 8oz.

Over at Highflyers Lake Andy Rabjohn took top spot with 57lb followed by followed by two March anglers, Smug Smalley, who caught 51lb and Martin King, 44lb 8oz.

Then last Tuesday the fish went on a feeding spree after a couple of warmer days.

In first place was lake manager Kenny Gammon who fished meat close in all day for a winning total of 221lb of carp to 10lb.

Smug Smalley was second with 200lb and John Odey was third 199lb 12oz.

Over at Head Fen, Matt Ayres was top with 55-8 and Andy Kleen was second with 41lb.

The Senior Citizen's Open Matches take place on April 15 on the pool at Fields End Water. Draw time is 8.30am with fishing from 9.30am-3.30pm.
