LEAGUE champions St Albans who are set to play in the National League next year put Wisbech to the sword in their penultimate match of the season.

The visitors took command with two early goals but Sam Blunt pulled one back with a cracking drive through the goalkeeper's legs before half-time.

St Albans played some excellent passing hockey in the second half and ran out comfortable winners, with Drew Harvey scoring a consolation goal from a short corner midway through the period.

Bottom-placed Wisbech are already relegated and play their final match of the season against Bluehearts at 1pm on Saturday.

Wisbech chairman of selectors and player Jonathan Shippey said: "It's been a tough season but it's a remarkable achievement that little old Wisbech have been playing one level below the National League."

WITH promotion already secured, Wisbech finished the season on a high with victory over local rivals March.

Wisbech dominated early possession but went 2-0 down.

Dom Stannard pulled one back before half-time after Sam Dunn's shot was well saved.

Two Dunn goals from short corners in the second half gave Wisbech the win.

Man of the match went to the superb Simon Freaar who kept Wisbech in the game with a string of excellent saves.

WISBECH pulled off a remarkable comeback after being 3-0 down at half-time and down to 10 men.

An injury to Max Thomas left Wisbech short but a good move finished with Jason Esser hitting home from midway inside the D.

After some solid work in the midfield James Williams linked up with Hugo Atkins to slot in from close range.

Wisbech struck again moments later, James Williams providing a great ball again for Hugo Atkins to add the finish.

Williams bamboozled the City defence before hitting the winner from the top of the D.

Wisbech finish off the season at home to Ely at 4pm on Saturday.
