TALENTED Cerys Gilbert has won national honours in her first season of competitive horse driving - and all before her ninth birthday.

The youngster, from Guyhirn, beat rivals from across the country to win the Young Junior class at the British Indoor Horse Driving Trials in Bedfordshire.

Cerys has been riding her grandparents’ horse Pepper since she was four after watching her mother, Cathy, and grandfather, Brian Nicholls, compete.

She qualified from the Norfolk section before excelling in dressage, a timed accuracy course and over gated obstacles at the three-day trials.

The schoolgirl is the youngest member of British Young Drivers, and has been involved in a film shoot with Mike Bushell from BBC Extreme Sports to help promote the sport.
