Bourne beaten in final round of King of the Fens

THE final round of the King of the Fens took place on Sunday on the North Level Drain at Tydd Gote.

Bourne Angling Club went into the match as leaders but Van Den Eynde took the title and pushed them into second place.

Individual winner on the day with an all-bream catch was Mike Whittaker with 28-12 and Alan Lemmon was second with 15-7.

On the same drain a week last Tuesday Dave Parlett won the three-hour evening match with 12-12. I was second with 7-9 then on Thursday evening Mick Gamble took top spot with 9-15 and Hans Schuman was second with 7-00.

Last Sunday at Black Dyke Ray Groom won with 10-4 and Mick Evered was second with 7-9.

Manea Angling Club didn't fish on Sunday but they will be back on the Delph this Sunday at 7am. On the lakes, Jon Whincup is the man to beat. Last Saturday he took top spot on the Beastie Lake with 98lb and the following day he had to settle for second, behind Tony Dawson.

Fishing Yew Lake, Dawson landed 106lb and Whincup caught 88lb.

Highflyer Lake is still fishing well. A week last Tuesday Kenny Gammon won with 263lb then last Saturday Dave Pearce snr came out on top with 261lb.

On Sunday John Pesci won with 282lb.

Whitemoor Angling Club fished High Flyers a week last Wednesday and Paul Ringham won with 136lb and Tony Mole was second with 120lb.

Over at Button Hole Lake Damien Evans won the Tuesday evening match with 72-12. His catch included a 16lb carp.

Danny Button was second with 55-12.

Townsend Angling Club travelled to Pidley to fish Magpie Lake and there was only 6lb separating the top eight anglers but out in front with 36lb was Stuart Wilson.

Mill View Angling Club fished on the Canal Lake at Willowcroft last Sunday and Ray Sladden came out an easy winner with 135lb and Des Proud was second with 69lb.

Mill View are at Barford Lakes near Norwich this week.

March angler John McKay has just returned home from a carp fishing holiday in France and while there he caught a personal best 40lb carp.

This Sunday March and District Angling Club are running a Sweepstake match on the Bypass. Draw time is 8am and fishing is from 9am-3pm.

Finally, last Saturday the March club fished in the Third Division National on The Staffs and Worcester Canal and finished 12th out of a possible 40 teams but missed promotion by just two places.
