TABLE tennis player Mark Spinks will be jetting off to Japan for the disabled Olympics after surpassing the £2,000 he needed to raise.
More than 100 people turned out to support the 45-year-old from Walpole Highway, who has cerebral palsy, at a charity dance night at Walton Highway Village Hall on Friday.
The night was organised by Mr Spinks' three sisters, Terri Allen, Vicki Spinks and Sally Smart, and featured entertainment from Elvis impersonator Tony G.
Mrs Smart said: "The turnout was fantastic. We raised more than £900 from the night and took our total to more than £2,300, which is enough to get Mark to Japan next month.
"There were so many people who donated raffle prizes, including one man who gave us £50 as a prize."
Mr Spinks' wife Brenda also held a 12-hour charity dance marathon, at Walpole Highway village hall the previous weekend, and raised more than £600.
