Fenland Running Club fielded a weakened squad in the second round of the Frostbite Friendly League last Sunday.

Sean Connolly was the pick of their 20-strong contingent as he took 62nd place – out of a record entry of 576 runners – in a time of 32.28 at Nene Park in Peterborough.

Maire Kay was the quickest FRC lady to complete the five-mile test as she clocked 39.21, which placed her 289th overall.

Steve Bennington (336th), Stacie Youngs (445th) and Paula Connolly (562nd) all made their debuts in the series.

Another FRC member, Elisabeth Sennitt Clough, finished 57nd out of 202 competitors in the Lode Half-Marathon with a time of 1:46.33.

A host of other runners competed much further afield. Rod Sinnott (3:21.10) and Paul Griffin (3:33.33) both took part in the New York Marathon, while clubmates Denise Griffin (25.57) and Alan Bird (25.59) ran the Dash To The Finish Line 5k event which is a prelude to the main marathon.
