GOAL-MACHINE Ollie Mann will be hoping to make Wisbech Town his next victim tomorrow - but Fenmen boss Steve Appleby isn’t worried.

Lethal marksman Mann scored 41 Ridgeons Premier Division goals for Brantham Athletic last season and has already notched 18 times this campaign.

However, the 22-year-old hot prospect, who had a week-long trial with League One Colchester United in September, failed to score against the Fenmen last season.

And Appleby hopes third-placed Wisbech can keep Mann quiet again when second-placed Brantham arrive at the Elgood’s Fenland Stadium.

The Fenmen boss said: “We don’t make any special plans for anyone. We’re aware of Ollie’s talents because he’s done exceptionally well at this level.

“He should be playing at a higher standard than he is but Anthony Reeve did a great job on him last season and hopefully he - and our other defenders - will do the same.

“The lads just need to do their jobs and hopefully we’ll do more damage at the other end of the pitch.”

Wisbech’s own red-hot striker Chris Bacon, third behind Mann and Mildenhall Town’s Andrew Wood (15 goals) in the league’s scoring charts with 13 goals, will miss the vital clash through suspension.

The Fenmen will be fired up after their 12-game unbeaten run, and dreams of retaining the Ridgeons League Challenge Cup, were ended during Tuesday’s 1-0 second round defeat to Norwich United.

The loss followed Appleby’s side’s 1-0 FA Vase triumph at Racing Club Warwick on Saturday thanks to Callum Reed’s goal. Wisbech travel to Essex Senior League Witham Town in the third round on December 3.

Appleby said: “If our run was to end in the past fortnight and we could have chosen the game to lose, Tuesday was it.

“Winning the league cup last season was important but now people believe we can win things. The league and FA Vase is higher on our list of priorities now - it shows just how far we’ve come.”

The Fenmen also host CRC in the league on Tuesday night (7.45pm kick-off).
