THE omens are looking good for Wisbech Town on Saturday.
The Fenmen kick off their Ridgeons Premier Division campaign at home against a Stanway Rovers side which has not won their opening match of the season for 10 years.
Wisbech player-manager Gary Setchell said: "We're not taking it lightly because I know Stanway are a good side.
"They finished the season very strongly last year and have managed to keep hold of a player who was the second highest scorer in the league.
"They are creative in midfield and strong at the back. It will be a really good test for us and we will have to hit the ground running."
Wisbech have suffered the loss of two key players in their pre-season build up.
Midfielder Stuart Ablett may miss the entire season after dislocating his shoulder in last Thursday's 3-0 friendly defeat to March Town United.
Stuart Cobb, who can play in midfield or up-front, has torn his ankle ligaments and is expected to spend several months on the sidelines.
Setchell has boosted his squad by signing Jordan Young, who can play left-back, left-midfield or central-midfield, from Histon and defender Gary Bush from King's Lynn.
He also expects former King's Lynn midfielder Charlie Defty to join up with the squad when he returns from a trip to Thailand.
Setchell took charge of the Fenmen midway through last season following the resignation of Steve Taylor and said the players lacked fitness.
He said: "We've had some good workouts in pre-season and the players are looking very fit and sharp.
"I'm working to a similar budget to last season and my priority is to keep us in the Premier Division.
"I don't want it to be as much of a nail-biter as last year and am looking for a decent mid-table position.
