AN EXTRA-TIME winner from substitute Luke Kennedy saw the Fenmen beat table-topping Dereham Town 1-0 at Aldiss Park last night in the Ridgeons League Challenge Cup First Round.

Wisbech spurned three or four good chances in the first half and battled well during the second in torrid conditions.

Kennedy, who replaced Stacy Cartwright just before the end of normal time, clinched a deserved win for Wisbech who travel to Wroxham on Saturday in a preview of the FA Vase Second Round encounter on November 13.

Delighted Fenmen boss Steve Appleby said: “We’ve got massive quality in our side and I’m thrilled with the win last night.

“They put out their strongest team and we both went for the win. We could have been three or four up but we dug in well after that and I felt we were the better side and deserved our victory.”
