Wisbech Town’s first half display in their 4-2 defeat to Yaxley was unacceptable.

That is the view of manager Dick Creasey after his men were hit by four-quick fire goals in the opening 45 minutes of Tuesday night’s UCL Premier Division clash.

Skipper Jonno Fairweather and Michael Frew reduced the arrears in the second half, but their strikes proved to be a mere consolation as the Fenmen were handed their first defeat in three matches – a bitter pill to swallow following their impressive 3-2 success at Cogenhoe United last Saturday.

“Saturday was better, but its now a case of one step forward and one back,” Creasey said.

“Tuesday was a game of two halves, and if I’m honest, the first half was unacceptable.

“There were too many school-boy errors and we played in a school-boy manner.

“The second half was a little better, but there’s no point locking the stable door if the horse has already bolted.”

Creasey also admits he got things wrong tactically in Tuesday’s derby – but says his players should also shoulder the responsibility for their poor result.

“I probably got the formation wrong and I’ll hold my hands up to that,” he said.

“Things didn’t go right for us and in hindsight I probably got it wrong but the players can certainly take a lot of the blame.”

Wisbech go head-to-head with mid-table rivals Oadby United tomorrow (3pm), before taking on strugglers Huntingdon Town on Tuesday (7.45pm) – fixtures Creasey expects maximum points from.

“We’ve got a couple of games coming up where nothing less than six points is acceptable,” he said.

“We need to start putting wins together and the next two games are a good chance to get back to winning ways.”

Creasey also says he may be forced to venture back into the transfer market after losing influential defender, Luke Wilson, to injury.

Wilson is expected to be out for a month, leaving Creasey with no option but to bring in a fourth new recruit this month following the signings of Sam Vince, Liam Fryatt and Alex Beck last week.

“Luke did his hamstring, so we’ll have to look to bring in a replacement,” he said.

“The lads we brought in last week are settling in OK and we certainly can’t place any blame on their shoulders for the loss on Tuesday.

“I’m sure all three of the lads will be good additions to the squad in time.”
