NE14 MEN'S EAST PREMIER DIVISION A

Wisbech Town I 2 Blueharts I 3

WISBECH suffered their first home league defeat of the season.

Having beaten Blueharts in the cup earlier in the season Wisbech were reasonably confident and started the game well but found a goalkeeper in inspired form and were kept at bay despite creating a number of chances and Wisbech's James Sheppard matched his opposite number by making several good saves.

But Blueharts found a way past him and followed up with a second goal before the break to lead 2-0.

Wisbech started the second half well and a moment of magic from Brad Apted saw him pull a goal back. He received the ball surrounded by defenders but a bit of trickery and a flick of the wrist and the ball was in the net.

Then came the only unsavoury incident of the game.

Dan Martell received a high ball and the umpire wrongly blew his whistle against the Wisbech player.

Thinking it was his ball Martell didn't move away and was kicked by the Blueharts player. The player was shown a yellow card and Wisbech were awarded a short corner. They exacted revenge when Sam Markille converted.

Sam Blunt then rifled a shot towards the top corner which was well saved and Blueharts were run ragged.

Wisbech were dealt a cruel blow 10 minutes from the end.

Blueharts were awarded a short corner which bobbled around the goal before being prodded in.

WISBECH stayed top of the division with this hard-fought point in which Wisbech failed to create many chances.

The game was dominated by both defences and some good goal keeping especially by Wisbech skipper Kev Shippey kept March at bay.

Wisbech have a clear weekend and will need results to go their way if they are to stay top.

Boston III 4 Wisbech V 6

A HUGO ATKINS hat-trick helped Wisbech to victory.

Boston have not won all season but proved a real test for Wisbech

After the hosts took the lead, a well-struck penalty corner from Howard Atkins equalised but the hosts restored their lead before the break.

The game went from end to end but some good work from Tim Atkins on the right helped make two goals from Hugo Atkins and one from Carl Pope which balanced out the two from Boston.

Wisbech dominated the last 10 minutes and Hugo Atkins scored his third and George Carter scored a smart rebound.

Wisbech are at home to Horncastle tomorrow at 11.30am.
