DUCKS and swans have been shot at with BB guns during a spate of anti-social behaviour in Upwell and Outwell.

Other incidents have included smashing of windows, vandalism in gardens, noise nuisance and graffiti daubed on private and public property.

Upwell Parish Council has distributed leaflets to householders throughout the parish urging people to report all incidents of vandalism.

Council chairman Neil Morgan said: "People don't have to put up with it. Police are not in great depth in this part of the world and there has been a feeling in the past that if you report things nothing will happen.

"Now we have a police point at the post office in the village and we would encourage people to report things. We have said the parish council will press for severe penalties if those responsible can be identified."

The behaviour is causing so much concern that a meeting is to take place within the next few weeks between members of Upwell and Outwell parish councils, police and Asbo co-ordinators.

Anyone with information, or who has witnessed anti-social behaviour, is being urged to contact police or Upwell Parish Council (tel 01945 772260) to file a report. It is hoped enough evidence can be collected to prosecute those responsible.

The council has also discussed the possibility of starting a Home Watch scheme in the parish. Councillors are to meet with the Home Watch administrator from King's Lynn police.

The next meeting of Upwell council will be held on Monday, January 15 at 7.30pm in the village hall.
