Conservative Parliamentary candidate Steve Barclay made a splash at a March fundraising event on Monday.
Mr Barclay, who is seeking re-election as the area’s MP, found himself in the stocks facing a barrage of wet sponges at the St John’s Church May Day event.
He said: “I’m sure that many residents sick of the election coverage would love to pelt politicians with a cold wet sponge! The day was great fun and the perfect antidote to the election, whilst also raising much-needed money for the church. Well done to everyone involved.”
Around 400 people attended the event on the sunny bank holiday where children petted chicks and had a chance to meet Elsa from Disney’s Frozen. The day of fun raised an estimated £1,500 for church funds.
