Students at Thomas Clarkson Academy enjoyed a visit from a world famous ceramics artist who brought in examples of her work.

Angela Mellor is a UK-born artist who spent 12 years living in western Australia where she took inspiration from the ocean to influence her work.

She said: “All my work is slipcast in bone china, the forms mainly bowls and vessels, some decorative and some functional.

“My main aim is to explore the translucency of bone china and its potential for the transmission of light.

“I am particularly interested in the effects of light on the landscape, especially in coastal areas where the infinite variety of organic contours, tonal contrasts, and patterns provide a continuing source of inspiration.”

Art teacher Sarah Loosemore said: “This was a fantastic opportunity organised by art teacher Rob Dempsey. To have a world renowned ceramic artist visit our students and inspire them with her work and techniques was brilliant.

“It was a real privilege for our students and one which they will definitely benefit from, as they continue to progress with their own art work.”
