THE December WI meeting began with president Joan Pearson welcoming one visitor. Thought for the month was 'What the Donkey Saw' read by Ann Reed. Birthday gifts were presented to Betty Atlee, Anita Barker, Anne Barnes and Val Walpole. A New Year meal is being arranged for January 24 at the Old Mill, Upwell. Ethel Bone who is leaving the WI was thanked for all the work she has done over the past years. Betty Atlee is now in charge of welfare and Val Beakhouse is helping run the raffle. Speaker was Fiona Lucraft. Hre subject was Food for Christmas through the ages. A finger buffet was served and all members received a small gift and a Christmas card. Christmas cake and sherry were served by Joan Pearson, Vanessa Cochran and Val Beakhouse At the next meeting, on January 4, the speaker will be Len Priestly and the competition will be 'Hhow many household items can you get into a standard-size matchbox?'.
