Aldi show Christmas spirit and scrap £70 fine for disabled woman from Wisbech who over-stayed visit by 12 minutes

Kind hearted bosses at Aldi have scrapped a £70 fine handed out to a disabled motorist who parked longer than permitted at their Wisbech store.
We alerted the company to the plight of Jackie Eales on Friday and now Aldi has confirmed the parking ticket has been scrapped.
A company spokesman said: “Tickets in this car park are issued automatically by the car park operator after a 90 minute stay. We review all complaints on a case-by-case basis and will refund Ms Eale’s ticket now we are aware of the circumstances.”
Jackie said she had stayed 12 minutes over the one-and-a-half hours given to shoppers at the Aldi supermarket in the town.
The 64-year-old told this newspaper that when the parking fine came through the door she thought it was a letter from her doctor.
Ms Eales suffers with breathing problems and is forced to take an oxygen tank with her when ever she goes out.
She said: “I rang up the doctors and was told that it was a scam so I just ignored it. It wasn’t until the reminder came that I realised it was from Aldi.”
Ms Eales has lived in Wisbech for eight years and has been shopping in Aldi for at least four of them.
She added: “One-and-a-half hours is just not long enough, especially for someone disabled.”
“It’s just such a shame, I’d understand if they gave us two hours. It just doesn’t make me want to go back and I don’t want this to happen to anyone else.”
After asking her friends and neighbours, Ms Eales said that not many were even aware that the supermarket had the time limit.
In a statement online, a spokesman for Aldi said: “Parking time limits are given to customers to allow them enough time to do their shopping.
“Should anyone go over the parking time limit, Parking Eye will issue them with a charge.
“We would like to assure our customers that Aldi does not receive any revenue from these parking measures.
“If any customer feels that they have received a charge unfairly, please do let us know and we are more than happy to look into appeals on a case by case basis.”
Ms Eales said: Even loading my car takes a little longer than everyone else and sometimes I need a break. This is something that needs to be looked at.”
