A WOMAN convicted of assaulting Wisbech hotel owner Jonathan Davies is due to be sentenced later this month.

Margaret Cassidy - who lives at the Rose and Crown Hotel - was found guilty of assaulting the hotel's co-owner on July 14 following a trial.

The Rose and Crown Hotel on Wisbech Market Place was the subject of the TV documentary The Hotel Inspector earlier this year.

Cassidy, 42, appeared before Fenland magistrates yesterday. She had been found guilty of the assault following a trial last month and was due for sentencing this week.

After the trial the court said it was considering all sentencing options and ordered a report from the probation service, asking for consideration to be given to anger management and alcohol treatment.

But sentencing could not go ahead this week, because Cassidy had missed an appointment with the probation service, so a report had not been prepared.

After the trial on November 4, Fenland magistrates had heard that the assault on Mr Davies put Cassidy in breach of a six-week suspended sentence imposed on her last August, for an offence of assaulting another co-owner of the Rose and Crown hotel Jacqueline Noot, and damaging a flower pot belonging to Ms Noot.

Solicitor John Clarke said Cassidy had forgotten to attend her appointment with the probation service.

"She did not intentionally avoid the probation service, it slipped her mind," he said.

Because the assault was a case of domestic violence, the court could not order a stand-down report prepared on the day of a court hearing, magistrates heard.

Cassidy was given a new appointment with the probation service for December 4. She was given unconditional bail and told to return to Wisbech courthouse for sentencing on December 23.
