WISBECH Youth Council will look to organise a 'mini Olympics' in the next 12 months, under the leadership of new chairman Stuart Murat.

Fourteen-year-old Stuart took over the role from Ben Stek at the council's annual meeting.

Stuart said: "We've had an excellent first year and it is my intention to work hard to make this year even better."

Stuart, the son of Town Clerk Erbie Murat, is a Wisbech Grammar School student and the hooker for the school's rugby 'A' team. He is also a black belt, a qualified instructor and county champion in Tae Kwon-do.

The meeting was attended by several dignitaries, including the current Mayor of Wisbech, Councillor Yvonne Lawrence; and the leader of Wisbech Town Council, Councillor David Oliver.

The youth council decided at the meeting to look at the possibility of organising a mini Olympics.

Despite standing down as Chairman, Ben will still be involved with the town council.

He said: "I have to concentrate more on my school work now so that I can achieve the grades I need to train as a pilot with the Royal Air Force."

The town council formed Wisbech youth council in September last year.
