Youngsters in Wisbech are being asked to research the life of a local person who took part in the First World War as part of a commemorative project.

Wisbech Lions say that the aim is to “recreate the story of often-unsung heroes before their name falls into oblivion.”

The community organisation is searching for youngsters aged 14 to 18 to collect as many facts, photos and testimonies about a Great War hero for a competition to mark the centenary.

Competitors will visit any local war memorial and choose a name.

They will register their own name, address and date of birth along with the name they have chosen to research at wisbechlionsclub@outlook.com

Competitors should have permission of their parent or guardian and this can be sent with the entry email.

Their project will then be submitted to Wisbech Lions no later than September 30.

An independent panel of Judges will review the projects and prizes will be awarded for the quality of the research and of their story.
