SPORTS teams from the Thomas Clarkson Community College in Wisbech will be wearing a smart new kit after Christmas.

Seventy-two boys raised cash for the kit and new sports equipment, by taking part in football coaching during a special sponsor day.

"We raised around £1,500, it was a marvellous effort," said teacher Matthew Garrod, who is in charge of boy's PE. "I have bought three sets of kit, and a fourth kit has been donated by Fenland Hygiene, for which we are very grateful. The new kit will have the school's name and logo on it."

Year 8 pupil William Ketteringham raised the most cash during the day, winning himself a new pair of football boots.

Mr Garrod is thrilled with recent sporting success at the school. Year 8 boys have reached the final of the Minute Maid Cup, and the year 8 rugby team won the Isle of Ely league.

"The teams have worked very hard, they have shown great commitment," he said.
