YEAR nine students at the Thomas Clarkson Community College in Wisbech have been going bananas this week in a bid to boost their energy during SATs tests.

The youngsters were given food for thought by Tesco who delivered hundreds of bananas to the college.

Science head of department Mrs Nursery said: "When we analysed last year's SATs results, the students did really well for the first half hour but then the number of questions they got right dropped dramatically.

"As the exam ran from 10.30am and lots of students have very early breakfasts, that drop could well be attributed to lack of energy.

"This year Tesco very kindly stepped in at the last minute and we took delivery of over 300 bananas which we gave out to students before the SATs tests. Now we need to wait for the results in July but the whole thing went down very well with our students.
