FENLAND magistrates made history this week by imposing the first drinking banning orders on two troublesome teenagers.

Damien Codona and Brandon Wright, both 18, are now banned from all pubs or clubs in Wisbech town centre for two years.

The pair are also banned from entering the town during the evening, and must not carry an open container of alcohol.

The orders are the first to be imposed in Cambridgeshire and only a handful have been imposed throughout the UK.

Pictures of Codona and Wright will be displayed in pubs and off licences, alongside offenders with an ASBO.

"I am very pleased the court has granted the orders," said Insp Andy Sullivan. "We have worked with Fenland District Council, Safer Fenland Partnership, Pub Watch and the Horsefair to put these orders before the court.

"None of the agencies will stand by and let drink related anti-social behaviour affect the people who live in Wisbech.

"Anti social behaviour must be tackled, and not tolerated. These orders are one of the mechanisms the government has given us to do that."

Applying for the orders on behalf of the Chief Constable, Andrew Logan outlined a string of drink related incidents, involving Codona and Wright.

Both had assaulted customers in the Rose and Crown Hotel; Codona started an altercation with customers at The Case pub, and Wright had been verbally abusive to patrons of the Wheatsheaf pub.

Codona, of St Paul's Close, Gorefield, is banned from the town centre between 8.30pm and 5am and Wright, of Mountbatten Drive, Leverington, is banned from the town between 7pm and 5am.

Presiding magistrate Jane Melloy told Codona: "We make this order to protect people in Wisbech who want to go for a quiet drink, and not watch you have a fight.
