A 17-year-old girl from Wisbech has more than quadrupled her £300 fundraising target by braving the shave.
Megan Locks, who decided to lose her locks because her grandma Barbara Lawrence is undergoing chemotherapy, has raised £1,380 for Macmillan Cancer Support so far.
Top to Toe Hair Salon in Wisbech hosted the event and donated prizes for a raffle.
Jess Lawrence, Megan’s auntie, said: “There was a wonderful turn out of people and once the shave was completed our family hugged one another and there wasn’t a dry eye in the house.
“Sadly mum lost most of hers by the end of last week so she was already bald.
“We’re all extremely proud of Megan being so brave and supporting her gran.
“For a girl of just 17 she has shown such maturity.”
Ahead of the shave, Megan, who works at Country Kennels in Outwell, said: “Gran was recently diagnosed with ovarian cancer, and the hospital said her hair will soon start to fall out, but she’s been so positive about it.
“Her reaction when she told me was ‘think of all the money I’m going to save on shampoo’. It’s incredible, really.”
Megan, who has gone completely bald, said she had always thought about having her hair shaved off for the charity.
“I’ve always said it’s an amazing thing to do, but now it’s close to home – no-one should have to lose their hair.”
In a post on her JustGiving page, Megan writes: “She is a positive energy and an inspiration to my family and all who know her.
“I know it’s not much, but shaving my head is something I am honoured and excited to do. Fighting cancer is hard enough and losing your hair shouldn’t be an upsetting memory to look back on. I can’t wait to do this for you gran, together, and with everyone else’s support, we will kick cancer’s arse.”
