CLOSE friends of a Wisbech boy who died of Leukaemia have presented two cheques totalling �6,000 to Addenbrooke’s Hospital to mark the first anniversary of his death.
Madeleine Boulton and Alice Meekins, Wisbech Grammar School sixth formers, travelled to the Cambridge hospital to visit the wards that treated Jack Thulborn, 16.
They presented Helen Bearfield-Smith, regional fundraising manager for the Teenage Cancer Trust, on ward C9, with a cheque for �3,000 that was raised by a sponsored ride from the school to Addenbrooke’s.
Jan Wildman, the school’s charities coordinator, said: “We felt quite privileged to see the wonderful surroundings that patients will be living in. It is fantastic. It is clear that the money we have raised has been well spent and will undoubtedly benefit young cancer sufferers in the future.”
A second cheque was given to nursing staff on ward C10 after money was raised by another sponsored bike ride and a Wisbech Grammar School’s Got Talent competition.
Miss Wildman said: “It was poignant to see ward C10, as it was so close to the anniversary of Jack’s death.”
