WISBECH: Shock for football club who could be playing away EVERY week!

WISBECH Town Football Club could be playing their home games in March next season.

The club is left in limbo with the sale of Fenland Park to developers agreed on the basis they get final approval on the proposed new ground on Lynn Road.

The move was given the go-ahead by King's Lynn and West Norfolk Borough Council last week but the Government Office for the East of England is to assess whether the decision is to e called in by the Secretary of State.

If the ground is approved it would not be ready in time for next season.

The Ridgeons League have contacted the club, wanting to know their plans as soon as possible and to be eligible to play the FA Cup and FA Vase next season Wisbech have to register a ground by April 1.

The Wisbech board held a meeting to discuss options but club but chairman Barry Carter said that nothing had been decided.

He said: "I am speaking to people over the weekend and is hoping to resolve it in the next few days."

It is expected that the Wisbech board will approach March Town United to see if they can play home matches at the GER Stadium on a temporary basis.

It has also been rumoured that the board has considering approaching Holbeach and Downham Town with a view to using their grounds for home matches.

A ground share would put the future of Wisbech Town's reserve and under-18 teams in jeopardy due to the limited availability of the pitch.

Wisbech supporter and website editor Spencer Larham said: "The board is looking to do anything possible to avoid having to pay the rents at Fenland Park.

"The closest stadium with Ridgeons League facilities is March Town United. They don't have a lot of money so could welcome us sharing rents with them.

"Many fans won't be happy about travelling to March to watch matches and it could be too difficult for some elderly and disabled fans.
