THE proprietors of a Wisbech scrap yard arrested after an undercover police operation have appeared in court charged with attempting to convert criminal property.
Michael Denton, 57, of Pine Lodge, Leverington Common, faces eight charges, seven involving electrical cable and one involving catalytic convertors.
Co-defendant Jane Goodhew, 50, of Guild Road, Wisbech, faces two joint charges with Denton, regarding electrical cable.
All the charges relate to a period of time between January 9 and June 12 last year. It is alleged that the two defendants attempted to convert criminal property, knowing or suspecting it to be the proceeds of criminal conduct.
Denton and Goodhew, who run a scrap yard in Osborne Road, chose not to indicate pleas when they stood before Fenland magistrates yesterday.
Magistrates declined jurisdiction over the case, deciding it should be heard at Cambridge Crown Court. Proceedings were adjourned for a committal hearing on February 16 and the two defendants were given unconditional bail.
