ROSE Fair week is possibly the busiest of the year for Wisbech. Now in its 45th year the planning of the event starts almost immediately the last one has finished!

For those involved-whether it's setting up stalls, flower displays, marshalling or taking part in the parade-everyone will be up early making sure you're not disappointed.

The Rose Fair is a tremendous showcase for Wisbech, this year 150 coaches, from as far away as Doncaster to London, are booked to come into the town and with at least 50 people per coach that's a lot of visitors, (and cups of tea and coffee!).

Proving economically very healthy for Wisbech, according to Fenland District Council, the Rose Fair brings nearly £1million into the town.

Cannon Wim Zwalf, Vicar of Saint Peter's and Chairman of the Rose Fair Committee explained: "Apart from bringing many into our town another element is that the Rose Fair is concentrated around the churches.

"All coming together to unite, and for some people who return year after year it's becoming almost like a medieval pilgrimage"

He added: "People have worshipped at St Peter's for some 880 years and the stones of the building have lived through many changes in the world.

"Many people who come to look at the wonderful displays haven't had recent contact with faith and this is another way to reconnect with the church.

"Last year I estimate we had around 25,000 visitors, many had not been to Wisbech before and we do have much to offer- the event gives the town a time to shine and show others what we can do".

Take time to admire the hard work of the shop keepers who have entered into the spirit and made delightful window displays in-keeping with this years theme, 'The Power of the Pen'.

With many floats entered into the Saturday parades it'll be interesting to see what the various groups have chosen! The times of the parades through the town centre are: 11am and 2pm so if you're in town don't forget your camera
