WISBECH: Prisoner awaiting trial found hanging in his cell at Norwich Prison

A PRISONER awaiting trial died after being found hanging in his cell, the Prison Service said.

Martin Dixon, 48, from Wisbech, was found in his cell at HMP Norwich at 6.30am on Sunday. Prison and ambulance staff attempted to resuscitate him but he was pronounced dead half an hour later.

He faced charges of theft, causing actual bodily harm and perverting the course of justice.

The Prisons and Probation Ombudsman will now investigate the death.

A Prison Service spokesman said: "Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Mr Dixon.

"As with all deaths in custody, the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman will conduct an investigation.
