A man who threw fireworks in public was issued with a fixed penalty notice from Wisbech Police.
On their Facebook page the neighbourhood policing team wrote that: “Officers were out on foot in the area of West Street this evening when a loud bang and a plume of smoke came from Onyx Court.
“A male was immediately detained and subsequently issued a fixed penalty notice for throwing fireworks in a public place.
“The remainder of his fireworks have been seized.”
The incident happened on Friday December 22.
The Ask The Police website says it is illegal to throw or fire any firework in or into any highway, street, thoroughfare or public space, which includes throwing or firing from a private place into a public place.
There is a curfew on the use of adult fireworks between 11pm and 7am.
The exceptions are Bonfire night when the curfew is midnight to 7am or on special occasions when the curfew is 1am to 7am. These are New Years Eve, Chinese New Year and Diwali.
The penalties for using fireworks outside curfew hours are a maximum of six months in jail.
