A WISBECH nursery which only opened last year has received an outstanding Ofsted report in all areas.

Little Owls Daycare, part of the Nene Infant and Nursery school, impressed Ofsted inspector Lynne Talbot who said partnerships with parents and others were key strengths.

Ms Talbot said: “Staff create a highly welcoming environment, they have an in-depth knowledge of each child’s needs to ensure that every child is fully included.

“Parents use an ‘interest tree’ to inform staff of development made by children at home. This helps to feed the individual detailed planning.

“Consequently the outcome in children’s achievement and the well-being for all children is exceptionally high.”

Karen Crawley, headteacher of Nene Infant and Nursery School, said: “We are delighted with this report. It is highly unusual for a setting to be rated as outstanding in its first year – this is a tribute to the hard work and dedication of all who work here.

“Staff and governors are particularly pleased that the inspector recognised the family atmosphere, which is such an important part of the school.

“The report has provided us with a good starting point, from which we will continue to work to provide the quality of education and care which we believe all our children deserve.”

Staff at the nursery are learning key phrases and words from the 12 different languages, including Lithuanian and Slovakian, that are spoken at the school and have everyday instructions printed in the different languages.

“These proactive measures challenge stereotyping and promote full inclusion by encouraging children to appreciate all people within the community and wider society,” Ms Talbot added.

Mrs Crawley was told that to improve in the future the nursery should continue the excellent partnerships with parents and families and use their skills within the school.
