SUPPORT is growing for a campaign to save a Wisbech post office which has been earmarked for closure in the latest round of cuts.

The post office in Harecroft Road is one which has been named to go and last week North East Cambridgeshire MP Malcolm Moss joined protestors who are fighting to save the branch.

Mr Moss said he has received a number of letters and emails from residents who are fighting to save the post office.

He will be using any letters he receives to build a case in favour of keeping the post office open.

He is also due to return to the post office, before the end of the six week consultation period.

Post mistress Nisha Maiya, said: "We have been very surprised by the amount of support we have received, but we still need more.

"Every little helps at the end of the day and we need the general public to show their support."

She is urging people to write to Mr Moss and also sign a petition which has been set up in the shop.

There are also plans for local councillors to visit the post office on Tuesday to show their support for the campaign.

Post offices in St Peter's Road, March, Benwick and Christchurch have also been earmarked for closure.

The post office in Benwick will be replaced by an outreach service and there are plans to move the sub post office to the Five Alls pub.

Christchurch will be served with an outreach service visiting one or two days a week.

The consultation process runs until August 26.

Anyone wanting to send their views is asked to write to Laura Tarling, Network Development Manager, C/o National Consultation Team, Freepost Consultation Team.

Or email consultation@postoffice.co.uk or call 08457223344.
