STUDENTS from Meadowgate School in Wisbech proved they were up on their rights stuff by coming top in the Consumer Challenge Quiz for 2009.
Youngsters from six special schools from Cambridgeshire battled it out in the quiz which was run by Cambridgeshire County Council. Special guest at the event was Dame Norma Major.
The winning team from Meadowgate was Tori Sykes, William Townrow, Guy Jolly and Charlotte Munday. All the teams were cheered on by fellow pupils, teachers and helpers.
The quiz aims to teach the youngsters about a wide range of issues including shopping rights, product safety, and food labelling. Officers visited the schools to give them an insight into the areas of work covered by Trading Standards.
The quiz, held at the Burgess Hall, St Ives, was keenly contested and is for pupils with special educational needs.
Councillor Peter Brown, Cabinet Member for Communities, said: "Trading Standards does a really good job in supporting our communities and to help to provide people with the knowledge they need to stand up for their rights.
"Holding the quiz is a fun way for the pupils to compete against each other and learn about issues that may affect them in later life.
