Wisbech Mayor Councillor David Hodgson is the first person in the world to be made issued with a certificate from the Royal Society of George after being made an honorary member.
The society, founded in 1884, celebrates a love of England and Englishness. Its patron is The Queen.
Cllr Hodgson said: “It is a great honour and pleasure to be given honorary membership.”
Peter Dennis, spokesman for the Royal Society of St George, said: “The Mayor of Wisbech was presented with a certificate from the headquarters of the society - this certificate was the first issued in the world.
“He has been made an honorary member of Fenland branch during his year of office.”
