THE possibility of parking returning - officially- to Wisbech Market Place could move a step nearer next month.

"It is vital that whatever scheme comes forward is better than the current situation and most importantly enforceable," a county council spokesman said this week.

Fenland District Council's overview and scrutiny panel is to launch a review, led by councillors, on the impact of two options on the central market area.

"Both options call for parking to be allowed," said the spokesman.

"Fenland Traffic Management Area Joint Committee has agreed two options for the market area in Wisbech.

"As a consultee and the landowner of this central market area Fenland District Council has been asked to consider if they would allow this."

The scrutiny panel will meet on November 2 when it will launch a member led review of the impact of the two options on the central market area.

"A final decision is then likely to be made by the district council's Cabinet in February," said the spokesman.

" Depending on this decision the two full options will then be determined by the Area Joint Committee in March before going out to a full public consultation.

" People will not only be able to have their say on the preferred options put forward by the Area Joint Committee but make their own suggestions as well."

The spokesman added: "Finding and introducing the right scheme for the Market Area is a priority for the County Council but it is also a complex issue.

"We would like to see this completed as soon as possible but it is also right that the public have their say and their views looked at.
