A WISBECH man who was placed on the Sex Offenders Register for seven years back in December of last year was jailed for two months on Tuesday.

Mindaugas Skirmantas - who tried to kiss the woman and then grabbed and squeezed her breasts - had failed to comply with the terms of the four month suspended jail sentence he was given at the time.

Skirmantas had been ordered to carry out 180 hours of unpaid work and take part in a drink impaired driver's programme as part of his sentence, and this week he admitted missing two appointments.

Before the original sentencing, 23-year-old Skirmantas of Prince of Wales Close, Wisbech, had admitted sexual assault, stealing two bottles of wine, obstructing police by giving a false name, drink driving, and driving without insurance or a licence.

Back in December, Fenland magistrates were told that Skirmantas assaulted the woman when she tried to defend a victim of street violence.

The defendant tried to force himself on her by trying to kiss her, he grabbed her on the chest, inside her bra, and it was flesh on flesh.

"She was utterly repelled by the assault," prosecutor William Powell told Fenland magistrates.

"Afterwards she felt humiliated and severely shaken, she lost her self confidence."

Magistrates said they reduced Skirmantas' jail sentence because he had complied with part of his community order.
