MAN ACCUSED OF RAPE WHEN HE WAS A SCHOOLBOY

A MAN accused of raping two girls more than seven years ago, when he was a schoolboy, has been sent to Cambridge Crown Court for trial.

Daniel Nelson, now 20, is alleged to have raped both girls, under the age of 16, between November 1999 and July 2000.

He also faces four charges of indecently assaulting a girl under the age of 14 during the same period.

Nelson, of Jeffery Avenue, Wisbech, appeared before Fenland magistrates on Tuesday, when he was told the charges were so serious that they could only be heard by a judge.

He was told to attend the Cambridge court for a preliminary hearing on July 1st, and was given unconditional bail.

A MAN charged with threatening to kill a police officer is to face Crown Court trial, after Fenland magistrates declined jurisdiction this week.

Karl Crofts, 21, of Norwalde Street, March, is alleged to have threatened to kill PC Mark Kane during an incident in March on March 23.

Crofts is also accused of assaulting PC Kane and PC Philip Nicholls, causing them actual bodily harm, and damaging two cars.

He chose not to indicate a plea, and the case was adjourned until August 5 for committal papers to be prepared.

A POLICE car had to use its sirens to get drink driver Peter Bourn to stop, Fenland magistrates were told.

Bourn, 42, of Long Drove, Murrow, admitted driving a Mitsubishi Pajero when over the alcohol limit in Mill Road at Murrow on June 5.

The self employed site manager, who works on the railway, will lose his job because of the 16-month driving ban imposed on him by Fenland magistrates, said solicitor Roger Glazebrook.

"He has had a bad few years," he explained. "His home has been repossessed. He was feeling a bit down, and went to the pub and had a couple of pints. He drove home, thinking he would be below the limit."

The court fined Bourn £100, and ordered him to pay a £15 surcharge and £60 costs.

MAGISTRATES activated a Wisbech man's five month suspended jail sentence this week, after hearing that he had failed to comply with his unpaid work order.

Michal Stolowczk had completed just 18.5 hours of a 200 work order since February - and had missed several work sessions.

"The time has come for us to say the order is not working and we are asking you to activate the suspended sentence order," probation services officer Marie Ludlum told Fenland magistrates.

Stolowczk was given the five month suspended sentence for offences including drink driving, and assault and criminal damage.

This week the court added an extra 14 days in jail for failing to attend court earlier this month.
