Wisbech Lions Club has given a cash boost to Wisbech Swimming Club so they can start raising funds to buy competition lane ropes and new starting blocks for its Hudson Leisure Centre home.
Wisbech Lions Club president Maureen Smart presented the cheque to Wisbech Swimming Club chairman Matt Hunter at the Hudson Leisure Centre on Friday.
Mr Hunter said: “New competition, anti-wave lane ropes will cost a few thousand pounds, while a set of five starting blocks adds several thousands more.
“But the Lions’ fabulous donation has given us the impetus to begin our fundraising campaign on a high note.”
Head coach Greg Marsters said: “There are only so many times we can repair our old lane ropes, which are becoming increasingly difficult to use after decades of service.
“With new ropes and, ultimately, starting blocks, we’ll be able to continue helping the area’s young swimmers to perform at the best of their ability.”
