WISBECH Lions Club continued their support of residents in the community by donating funds to help a powerlifter and a youth football team.
The Lions presented a cheque for £200 to Tom Baty, who has Down’s Syndrome, to help towards his travel costs to compete at next year’s World Special Olympic Games in Athens.
Mr Baty, 25, from Wisbech, was picked to represent Great Britain after he won a gold medal in his weight class at last year’s UK Special Olympics in Leicester.
Leverington Under-7s football team also benefited from the Lions’ generosity after around £280 was spent on new shirts for the side.
Bill Batrick, Wisbech Lions president, said: “We’re always happy and proud to help on occasions such as these where young people have worked and trained extremely hard.
“They have achieved a standard that is a great credit to themselves and our community.”
