THE quality of teaching, pupils' behaviour and a headteacher's leadership at a Fenland school were all praised by a government inspector.

They were three of the highlights for St Peter's Junior School, in Wisbech, following its latest Ofsted inspection.

Great pride is also taken in caring for the needs of each child, according to the inspector.

Headteacher Judith Skelton said: "Everyone connected to St Peter's is very pleased with this report. We are especially pleased that care, guidance and support, along with personal development and well-being, were highlighted as outstanding.

"This report reflects the hard work of staff and governors, coupled with the support of the parents which in turns benefits the children."

Teaching across the school was described as good, and pupils are well motivated and actively take part in lessons.

Mrs Skelton, who was described as "enthusiastic and hardworking", was praised for her role in rising expectations and moving the school forward.

The school was encouraged to raise standards further in English, mathematics and science, and to provide more opportunities for pupils to gain a better understanding of other cultures and faiths in the UK.

Mrs Skelton added: "As a school, we will continue to work hard to improve the areas highlighted for development.
