Local speed skating team, Wisbech Inline Speed, were in Birmingham at the weekend taking part in the second of three back-to-back races held across the country.
With the threat of rain and thunder the race programme was condensed and the heavens opened during the final race of the day.
The 11-person team showed a thunderous display on track with podiums and wins galore.
Siblings Taylor, Leah & Kirby Barker finished overall in 1st, 2nd and 3rd places respectively in their category races, with Leah putting on an excellent performance to seal a victory in the Mini Girls Age Category race and proudly took a trophy home.
Youngster and current Mini Boys British Champion, Arthur Buckler, triumphed in all four of his race events to seal overall victory of Category 4 and the Mini Boys category.
James Eve finished in a respectable 3rd place in Category 4 and finished in first place in his Age Category race with the Cadet Boys. His older brother Warren, was triumphant in Category 3 overall, while teenager Lucy McInerney sealed a respectable 3rd place finish in the 3,000mts Venus Cup race.
The main event of the day was the 10,000mts Keith Lee Boot race. Warren Eve and Tiago Fougo took part for the first time in the rain soaked race. Team coach Mike McInerney is no stranger to the long distance race, having been victorious a few years previously. This time around he finished in second place, along with an overall second place finish in Category 1.
The team were also joined by Dylan Taylor.
The team had extra to celebrate after three members of the team were confirmed to have broken British Records in 2018 and were presented with certificates from the Federation of Inline Speed Skating (FISS). Eve and Lucy McInerney from Leverington broke the Senior Ladies Indoor Relay record by 30 seconds and Arthur Buckler from Wisbech broke the 1000mts British record in Geisingen, Germany earlier in the year.
They have another race at the weekend in London and then they’re back to Birmingham on 16 & 17th June for the Outdoor British Championships which the team are now training hard for.
