A Wisbech Grammar School pupil has raised £1,000 for charity by swimming a mile in open water.
Oliver Smithee took part in the annual Padstow to Rock swim challenge in Cornwall across the estuary in aid of Marie Curie.
The 11-year-old completed the charity challenge in a time of 21 minutes - just two minutes behind the first person.
Oliver, who has been going to Padstow since he was three-months-old, was the third person out of the sea out of 300 people (mainly adults).
He was inspired to take part in 2015 at the age of nine when, after watching other people taking part, he pestered his mum until she let him enter.
The keen swimmer, who trains with Wisbech Swimming Club for up to eight hours a week, also managed to persuade his dad to take part with him.
Oliver said: “As I am 11-years-old I needed an adult to swim in the water with me... although he may not be able to keep up, my dad was busy training too.”
