A PAST pupil of Wisbech Grammar School is on track for a career in the army after winning a prestigious place on the officer-training course at the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst.
David Ayres,19, who lives in Wisbech, was selected after two rigorous residential sessions with the Army Officer Selection Board, which included fitness tests, mental aptitude tests and an assault course, and the intensive 44-week course starts next week.
The selection process, which included a two-day briefing and a four-day main board session, gave David a chance to meet like-minded people from a wide range of backgrounds.
He said: "It is something I have always wanted to do. I simply want to be a plain infantry officer.
