FENLAND District Council wants to make improvements to the facilities at Wisbech Park - and your help is needed.

The council wants to hear everyone's opinion on the 11 acres of green space to try and attract further funding for its refurbishment.

It wants to know about the aspects which are valued as well as the bits that aren't popular for its application.

From today, questionnaires will be available at locations across Wisbech and copies will be enclosed in next week's Wisbech Standard. These need to be returned to the council's freepost address by June 13.

The results will provide background information towards a funding application for the Heritage Lottery Fund's (HLF) 'Parks for People' programme.

An exhibition of the application will be put on display at the town's Rose Fair carnival on July 4 and 5, where there will a chance to meet those involved in the project.

If the bid is successful, the cash will provide new community facilities and children's play areas, and restore some of the park's historic features.

As the scheme only supports projects where local people are involved in their green space, it is really important everyone has their say on its future.

There have already been significant improvements since the council's parks team and the Friends of Wisbech Park group was launched in 2003. New cycleway and seating areas have been built, as well as impressive tree sculptures and landscaping work - but there is still room for further improvements.

All participants to the Wisbech Park Project Questionnaire will also be entered into a draw to win six months ambassador membership worth £150 to your local Fenland Leisure Centre.

Also involved in the application are The Landscape Partnership, Lanarca and Davis Langdon consultants.
