A PROPOSAL to open a register office in Wisbech Council Chamber is to be discussed by the town council.

A report to Monday's council meeting will debate whether the council chamber should be assessed to see if it is suitable for wedding and civil ceremonies.

Councillors will be told that the chamber would have to be licensed by the county council and would operate alongside four registry outstations locally, at Ely, Huntingdon, March and at Exchange Tower, Wisbech.

"In order for Wisbech to become a licensed marriage room, the registrar from Cambridge would have to visit to assess suitability," says a report to town councillors. "There would be a licence free of around £1,500 for three years.
